| Thanks for popping in! This message board complements Sarah Rainsberger's University Admissions Blog for Homeschoolers in Ontario where you'll find all the information you could possibly want about applying to university as a homeschooler in Ontario. Be sure to visit! This isn't a high traffic message board but you are welcome to add information and ask questions regarding Ontario University Admission policies for Homeschooled and other non-traditional students. As you navigate the university admission process as a homeschooler, mature student or anyone without the traditional academic credentials required for normal university entrance, I hope the policies here will be useful. If you notice something has changed or is out of date, don't hesitate to log in and update the information. You're currently viewing our forum as a guest. This website is meant to accompany Sarah Rainsberger's website about Ontario University Admissions for Homeschoolers.
In order to make school-by-school information easier to find at a glance, as well as to allow others to update school specific information and perhaps share their questions, concerns and experiences, I decided to experiment with a message board format.
The information on this site is factual information based on the policies of Ontario universities and is intended for anyone contemplating university who does not have the traditional academic credentials: a high school diploma. Depending on your age and educational background, you may be a candidate for applying as a mature student or for first enrolling in an open university. You might wish to use standardized tests as a means of fulfilling admission requirements, or choose to take accredited high school courses for just your top six instead of completing the entire four years of a high school diploma.
There are several options available to you, and reading 7 Ways to Get Into University Without a High School Diploma will give you an overview of the different paths to university in Ontario.
No student deserves to be unilaterally shut out from a university education just because his or her needs couldn't be met by a traditional high school. In fact, many of these students are ideal candidates for university-level study precisely because they weren't suited to a typical high school education.
In my 18 years as an educator, I have worked with academically gifted students who need more academic stimulation than a traditional school education can provide, elite athletes and youth performers who need more scheduling flexibility than a traditional school can provide, students suffering from physical or emotional conditions who need more accommodations than a traditional school can provide as well as students who simply benefit from a more personalized program than a traditional school can provide.
It is my hope that students, parents and universities alike will choose to add information and experiences here, providing reliable, accurate information.
Please take a moment and join. It's free, automatic and instantaneous. Ask anything you like, add your experiences, or just use this site as a reference for university policies and the admission process as a non-traditional applicant.
Thanks for visiting!
