Thanks for popping in!

If you're looking specifically for Ontario homeschool information, be sure to visit Sarah Rainsberger's University Admissions Blog for Homeschoolers in Ontario.

For more general information about getting into university in Canada (with or without a high school diploma!), visit University Admissions . ca . This site describes all the ways you can get into university in Canada and has information on all Canadian universities.

This isn't a high traffic message board but you are welcome to add information and ask questions regarding Ontario University Admission policies for Homeschooled and other non-traditional students. Click the "Recent Activity" link near the top right to see the latest posts. There's not a lot of posting, but I do reply to all questions!

As you navigate the university admission process as a homeschooler, mature student or anyone without the traditional academic credentials required for normal university entrance, I hope the policies here will be useful. If you notice something has changed or is out of date, don't hesitate to log in and update the information.

Current as of May 9, 2008 per http://www.uoit.ca/assets/Section~specific/Current~students/Academic~resources/Academic~Calendar~2008-2009/documents/sec4_undergraduate_adm.pdf

4.6.1: Secondary school students (International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement)

Applicants who have completed Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations may be granted up to a maximum of 18 credit hours (***Note from Sarah: the equivalent of 3 full university courses) toward their University of Ontario Institute of Technology degree. Other university-level courses taken while in high school/secondary school will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Official documents must be supplied directly from the issuing institution to the registrar's office to ensure granting of credit. Minimum subject scores of four in the Advanced Placement examinations and five in the International Baccalaureate examinations are required for advance standing.

Credit and exemption will not be given for completion of high school International Baccalaureate or Advanced Placement courses unless an acceptable score is attained on the examination administered by the appropriate board.
