Thanks for popping in!

This message board complements Sarah Rainsberger's University Admissions Blog for Homeschoolers in Ontario where you'll find all the information you could possibly want about applying to university as a homeschooler in Ontario. Be sure to visit!

This isn't a high traffic message board but you are welcome to add information and ask questions regarding Ontario University Admission policies for Homeschooled and other non-traditional students.

As you navigate the university admission process as a homeschooler, mature student or anyone without the traditional academic credentials required for normal university entrance, I hope the policies here will be useful. If you notice something has changed or is out of date, don't hesitate to log in and update the information.

Current as of May 9, 2008 per http://www.adm.utoronto.ca/adm/adm_pdf_files/APUTSC%202008.pdf

This information sheet is intended to help students admitted to the University of Toronto Scarborough understand how we recognize Advanced Placement Examinations. Provided you fulfill the conditions of your Offer of Admission you will receive transfer credit (sometimes called Advanced Standing) for the AP
subjects in which you obtain a final grade of at least “4”. Make arrangements with the College Board to have your final AP results sent electronically. Also, make an appointment to meet with Anthony Ngimat during the first week of classes – bring a copy of your final AP grade report with you to the meeting. If you have any questions regarding your Offer of Admission or possible transfer credit, please telephone us at 416
287-7529 or write to offer@utsc.utoronto.ca. Include your full name and UofT student number in all correspondence.

A list of possible Transfer Credits is given below. You may not enrol for degree credit in any courses listed as transfer credit or exclusion. In addition, you may not enrol in any courses listed in the Calendar as exclusions for these transfer credits or exclusions. If you do, the course taken here will be designated as “extra” and will not count for degree credit. For example, if you complete Biology with a grade of at least 4, you will be given transfer credit for BGYA01H3 and BGYA02H3. You must not enrol in BGYA01H3 or BGYA02H3. If you are uncertain about your final grades before course registration begins, we suggest that you “assume” that you will receive transfer credit. Once final grades are available and if you do not qualify for the transfer credit, you must amend your course registration. Forfeiting of transfer credit is not permitted.

Legend: The first three letters of the course code indicate the discipline or subject area. The fourth letter or number of the code indicates the year level of the course where A/1 = first year and B/2 = second year. The next two numbers indicate the specific course and “**” indicates that there is no exact equivalent at U of T for the course you have taken, so a generic credit is granted. Thus HISA**Y represents a generic credit in History and EESA**H a half credit in Environmental Science at the first year level.
