Current as of May 9, 2008 per http://www.findoutmore.uwaterloo.ca/admissions/ap.php Advanced Placement (AP) Transfer Credit Eligibility Effective for students beginning their studies at UW in September 2007 The University of Waterloo recognizes AP examination results and will consider awarding transfer credits for AP courses in which normally a minimum final grade of 4 is attained. Please note that official final AP results must be sent from the College Board directly to the Admissions Office at UW before transfer credit can be considered. Your official final AP results must be received by July 15, 2008. Transfer Credit chart with specific UW transfer credit equivalents can be found here. Transfer Credit chart with specific UW and WLU transfer credit equivalents for the Business Administration (WLU) and Mathematics (Waterloo) Double Degree Program can be found only here. * Transfer credits will be weighted as a 0.5 unit each (equivalent to one course). * The maximum number of transfer credits considered varies depending on the program admitted to. * Transfer credit will vary if you change a program that requires a transfer from one Faculty to another Faculty. For this type of situation, please note that a Faculty admissions committee reserves the right to refuse granting transfer credit. Declining Transfer credit Students will have the option of declining any of the awarded AP transfer credit on a course-by-course basis. To decline the credit, you must complete the following form (Decline Transfer credit form) and return to the Office of the Registrar one week prior to the last day for course enrolment. For September 2007, the deadline to submit the form is September 21, 2007. For September 2008, the deadline to submit the form is September 12, 2008. Maximum number of transfer credits and additional notes: Faculty of Applied Health Sciences * Recreation and Leisure degree program will consider up to a maximum of 2.0 units. * Health Studies or Kinesiology degree programs will consider up to a maximum of 3.0 units. * Specific transfer credit courses will not be awarded. That is, the following credit for AP courses in Biology will be given BIOL 1XX, Calculus will be MATH 1XX, Chemistry will be CHEM 1XX, Geography will be GEOG 1XX, and Physics will be PHYS 1XX. Faculty of Arts * Consider up to a maximum of 2.0 units. Faculty of Engineering, including Software Engineering * We consider these courses to be a good challenge and good preparation for our programs. You may find you have covered some of the material in our first term courses but, in most cases, not enough to be exempted from the entire course without potentially running into academic difficulties later. The depth and level of problem-solving is very different in our Engineering programs versus those courses within the systems listed above. As a result, we don't grant first-year course exemptions for AP courses. Faculty of Environmental Studies * Consider up to a maximum of 2.0 units. Faculty of Mathematics, including the Computing and Financial Management program, and the Buisness Administration (WLU) and Mathematics (Waterloo) Double Degree program * Transfer credit of 0.5 units for MATH 137 will be allowed for AP Calculus (AB or BC) with grade of 5. Students may: o Accept the transfer credit and begin their calculus sequence with MATH 138; or o Decline the transfer credit and begin their calculus sequence with MATH 137; or o Decline the transfer credit and begin their calculus sequence with Advanced Calculus, MATH 147. * Up to an additional 1.0 units will be allowed for other AP courses that are not in either mathematics or computer science according to the Transfer Credit chart. * Students who have taken additional AP courses beyond those for which they receive transfer credit may receive an exemption from courses specifically recognized in the Transfer Credit chart as equivalent to their AP course. * A Transfer Credit chart with specific UW and WLU transfer credit equivalents for the Business Administration (WLU) and Mathematics (Waterloo) Double Degree program can be found only here. Faculty of Science * Consider up to a maximum of 3.0 units. * Transfer credit of 0.5 units for MATH 127 will be allowed for AP Calculus (AB or BC) with a grade of 5. * Transfer credit of 0.5 units for STAT 202 will be allowed for AP Statistics with a grade of 4 or 5.
